Blade Runners—Deploying AI-Enabled Machines to Boost Blade Quality

This presentation will highlight how GE Vernova is innovating to combat industry-wide quality challenges, and using high-tech, advanced machines ("blade crawlers") in manufacturing to boost wind turbine blade quality.The background: Blade manufacturing is a labor-intensive process, and when they are the size of a football field (and growing), there's no room for error. Using robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) for blade inspections, we're helping ensure that the quality of each blade leaving our factories meets rigorous design specifications. Powerful algorithms scour each blades interior, looking for deviations before they are shipped out of the factories; they're then marked with a digital quality certificate that recognizes the digital vetting. Long term, this capability is expected to boost the lifetime of critical components and reinforce the longevity of turbines.
