Matt Crozat is Executive Director, Strategy and Policy Development, at the Nuclear Energy Institute. He is responsible for directing NEI efforts to identify policy initiatives that will improve economic viability of operating plants and enhance prospects for new plant construction. Mr. Crozat examines market operations and proposed policies to assess their impact on nuclear energy. He also oversees analyses of nuclear industry cost performance and trends.
Before joining NEI in 2015, Mr. Crozat was a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of Nuclear Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy. In this capacity he served as a lead analyst on nuclear policy issues with a particular focus on economics and strategy. He conducted studies assessing the economic challenges facing current nuclear plants, evaluating incentives for future deployment, developing strategies for technology development, and managing the fuel cycle to support policy development.
Mr. Crozat is recognized as an international expert on nuclear energy economic issues. He is co-chair of the Working Party on Nuclear Economics at the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD. In this role he has overseen international studies including those that assess complex interactions of nuclear power deployed with renewable technologies in a market setting. Mr. Crozat was the U.S. representative to the Nuclear Development Committee of the NEA where he was elected vice-chair prior to stepping down.
Mr. Crozat previously worked at Science Applications International Corporation examining future natural security and energy scenarios. He has extensive experience building and evaluating simulation modes of complex nuclear systems and energy-economy interactions. He holds an M.A. from Cornell University and a B.A. from Tulane University.
