Kevin Smith brings more than 40 years of experience in both renewable energy and conventional energy to his role as Chief Executive Officer at Arevon. Smith has spent the last 20 years of his career in executive positions in renewable energy and energy storage, but earlier in his career, he was a design engineer on nuclear facilities and then developed natural gas fired power projects across the U.S. and internationally. Since joining Arevon in mid-2023, the company has closed project financings of more than $3.7 billion and started construction on 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of solar and battery storage projects. The company continues to expand its footprint and expertise in the U.S., while fostering a diverse and inclusive company culture.
Prior to joining Arevon, Smith served as CEO Americas for London-based Lightsource bp, where he spearheaded the company’s expansion into the U.S. market. Under Smith’s leadership, Lightsource bp successfully developed more than $4 billion in solar assets and established a 20 GW development pipeline of projects. Prior to Lightsource bp, Smith was CEO for SolarReserve, Senior Vice President at Invenergy, LLC, President of Insight Energy, and Chief Operating Officer in London for Rolls-Royce Power Ventures. At Invenergy, Smith led the company’s development activities and early entry into the wind energy markets in 2004, resulting in one of the largest privately owned renewable energy company in the U.S. Over his career, Smith has actively led the development, financing, construction and operation of privately-owned energy projects in 26 states in the U.S. and more than a dozen countries across five continents with power sales contracts valued at more than $75 billion. For the last five years, Smith has served on the Board of Directors of the Solar Energy Industries Association. Smith earned his MBA from the University of Chicago and his Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University. In 2008, Purdue University named him the Mechanical Engineer of the Year for his service in the energy industry.
