As the global transition to electric vehicles (EVs) accelerates, customer experience has emerged as a key driver of adoption. Businesses and consumers alike demand a charging infrastructure that is as reliable and convenient as refueling traditional vehicles. However, interoperability issues within the EV ecosystem—stemming from inconsistent implementations of the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) and the lack of comprehensive industry-wide standards—pose a significant barrier to seamless user experiences.
This presentation will explore how enhanced collaboration and standardization efforts can bridge these gaps to ensure an optimal customer experience. By building on the foundation of OCPP, we propose the formation of industry alliances that establish minimum standards across three key areas: software, hardware, and network communication. Through these alliances, stakeholders—including utility providers, software developers, hardware manufacturers, and fleet operators—can work together to define and implement specifications that improve reliability, ease of use, and interoperability across the charging network.
